Dr. Jennifer A. Whittington is an educator and academic leader, currently serving as a Department Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Early, Elementary and Literacy Studies at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP). She teaches both graduate and undergraduate education courses, sharing her expertise and passion for education with a broad range of students.
Dr. Whittington earned her Doctorate in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2016. She also holds a Master of Science in School Administration and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education, both from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she also completed her Bachelor of Arts in History.
Dr. Whittington is licensed in North Carolina as an Elementary Education (K-6) teacher, Curriculum and Instructional Specialist, and School Administrator. She earned her National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist in 2010, further demonstrating her commitment to high standards in teaching and professional development.
Her professional experience spans various roles in higher education and public-school systems. Before her tenure at UNCP, Dr. Whittington was an Instructor of Early Childhood Education and the Department Chairperson for Public Services and Technologies at Bladen Community College. Additionally, she taught 3rd and 4th grades in public schools for 10 years, further solidifying her practical experience in elementary education.
