Samira Bashiru is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Special Education at Purdue University. Within the university, she holds the role of Operations Coordinator at the Center for Research and Equipment for Assistive Technology in Education. In addition to her administrative duties, she is also a Graduate Teaching Assistant and University Supervisor for undergraduate preservice teachers.
Her research focuses on enhancing teacher training to foster creativity among English learners with disabilities. Prior to her doctoral studies, Samira accumulated four years of teaching experience at Norquest College in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. During her time there, she taught in both the Early Learning and Childcare program and the Disability Studies program. Furthermore, she has three years of experience as a graduate teaching assistant at Purdue University.
Samira is actively involved in several professional organizations, including CEC, Indiana DEC, and AACTE Purdue Holmes Scholar program. She is also a Holmes Program Fellow at the Early Childhood Intervention Personnel Center for Equity (ECIPCE) Initiative. Additionally, she holds the position of Student Representative on the Executive Board of the Indiana Division for Early Childhood (IN-DEC).
