Dr. Markita C. Warren is an Assistant Professor of Practice and Coordinator of Middle Childhood Education in the Department of Teacher Education, where she teaches Middle School Methodology and Literacy courses. She is a co-director for the Racial Justice in Teacher Education-Networked Improvement Community (RJTE-NIC), a multi-institutional collaborative project that uses the principles of improvement science to strengthen university-based teacher preparation through a shared commitment to racial equity. Dr. Warren also co-directs the Urban Network for Innovation in Teacher Education (Project UNITE), an Urban Teaching Residency Program designed to strengthen preservice teachers’ readiness to work in urban districts. Her research focuses on the experiences of urban students in educational settings, diversifying P-12 curriculum and pedagogies, the linguistic needs of Black/African American students, and justice-oriented approaches to Education. She has presented her work at several conferences and is a reviewer for the Journal of Negro Education. Prior to higher education, Dr. Warren served as a practitioner, coach, and leader in multiple school districts and non-profit educational organizations for 15 years. She was recognized as a Top 100 RESA Educator by the Ohio Department of Education and received an Excellence in Teaching award from Cleveland State University.
