Dr. Margarita Jimenez-Silva is a Professor at University of California Davis’s School of Education. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Liberal Studies with an Emphasis in Early Childhood (Concordia University, 1991), an M.Ed. and Ed.D. in Human Development an Psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education (1992, 2002). Her research focuses on diversifying the teacher workforce, specifically on recruiting and supporting bilingual teachers. She has taught at Concordia University Irvine and Arizona State University. Her research has been published by journals such as Harvard Educational Review, Childhood Education, and the Journal of Research on Childhood Education. Dr. Jimenez-Silva has traveled to and coordinated curriculum and programs addressing the needs of emergent bilinguals in the U.S., as well as in Mexico, Panama, and Hungary. Prior to entering higher education, Prof. Jimenez-Silva worked with newcomer students as a middle-school math and science teacher in Oakland, California..
