Nancy LouriƩ Markowitz, Ph.D., is Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Reaching & Teaching the Whole Child (CRTWC), where her work focuses on integrating social-emotional learning with culturally responsive/sustaining practices in teacher educator preparation. She is SJSU Professor Emerita in the Department of Teacher Education and has been an urban elementary school teacher and K-8 school administrator. Her recent book, Markowitz and Bouffard, Teaching with a Social, Emotional, and Cultural Lens: A Framework for Teachers and Teacher Educators (Harvard Education Press,2020) serves as a resource for bringing a social, emotional, and cultural lens into teacher education and school classrooms. She has helped integrate the CRTWC Framework within teacher preparation programs in California, Oregon, Washington state, and Minneapolis, as well as at the state level in Oregon and Washington.
