Center for Reaching & Teaching the Whole Child
Rebecca Baelen, Ph.D., is the Director of Research and Development at the Center for Reaching & Teaching the Whole Child (CRTWC) and an adjunct Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University. She earned her Ph.D. in Education Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, where she developed and tested approaches to support teachers’ and students’ adaptive mindsets, social-emotional competencies, and well-being. After, she served as a postdoctoral research associate under Dr. Kimberly Schonert-Reichl at UIC, where she studied the implementation and efficacy of mindfulness-based SEL programs for teachers and students, the relationship between teacher well-being and student well-being and learning, as well as developed measures to assess teacher well-being and assets. More specifically, her research has focused on the design and evaluation of SEL and contemplative strategies to foster early career teachers' social, emotional, and cultural competencies. At CRTWC, Rebecca is supporting and studying the integration of the CRTWC Anchor Competencies Framework into teacher preparation programming, state-level policy initiatives, and into districts supports for new teachers.
