Associate Professor/Chairperson
Bowie State University
Dr. Jacquelyn Sweeney is Associate Professor of Literacy Education at Bowie State University.
Her research interests include the ways in which preservice and inservice teachers are prepared
for literacy instruction within culturally, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse
classrooms. She was a former classroom teacher with early interest in how technology might
propel literacy instruction and she has taught within k-12 and higher education in Michigan,
Indiana, Maryland, California, and Arizona. She is currently involved in a school-university
partnership through a program for paraprofessionals which allows school districts
to use a “grow your own” approach to diversify the workforce and prepare teachers.
